Led by multi-instrumentalist Ian Hammond, the six-piece from Chicago, IL blends indie, funk, progressive rock, and alt-rock. Bringing frenetic, vibrant performances, their music is inspired by The Talking Heads, Fela Kuti, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Pom Poko, and black midi. Cowboy Neal has an established presence in the local Chicago scene having performed at many venues, including: Beat Kitchen, Subterranean, Bookclub, Cole’s Bar, and more. In 2018, Ian Hammond sat in with Dweezil Zappa’s band at The Vic during their encore. Outside the band, Hammond works as a playwright and composer in Chicago’s theater scene, including music directing sketch comedy shows at The Second City and sound designing a production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. His new play Hornets debuts this May at the Greenhouse Theater Center.
